Malcolm L. “Buck” Marsh, born on May 16, 1923, was a World War II veteran, successful construction manager, and lifelong Phi Delt.
Marsh studied at Tennessee Tech University for two years before being drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II. As an infantry rifleman, Marsh fought in the Battle of the Bulge and helped liberate the Nordhausen concentration camp. For his service, he received three battle stars, a Purple Heart, and the Coveted Combat Infantryman Badge. In 2011, Marsh published a book, Reflections of a World War II Infantryman, about his experiences fighting in World War II.
After his military service, Marsh entered Auburn University, where he studied construction management. He joined Alabama Beta Chapter of Phi Delta Theta in 1947. Marsh also met his wife Wanda Mitchell at Auburn, and they were married in June 1949.
Buck and Wanda Marsh moved to Florence, Alabama, where they raised their children and Marsh established his construction career. Marsh worked for White Construction and BKW Construction and was involved in many significant projects, including the renovation of St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church in Auburn, Alabama. In the 1970s, the Marshes moved to Auburn, Alabama.
Marsh served and supported Alabama Beta Chapter and its members throughout his life. He sat on the Alabama Beta Chapter House Corporation Board for 40 years, serving president for 16 of those.
Buck Marsh passed away on January 20, 2022. This Buck Marsh Digital History Museum is dedicated to his memory.
